A Catalina PBY-5, sunk by Japanese forces in the opening minutes of the attack on Pearl Harbor, is being shown in detail for the first time ever.

A U.S. Navy airplane sunk by Japanese forces in the initial minutes of the attack on Pearl Harbor can be seen in detail for the first time ever.
The Catalina PBY-5 shown in the recently released images had been subject to past diving attempts in 1994 and 2008 but was only sufficiently explored in June of this year.
According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, or NOAA, "Twenty-seven Catalina PBY 'flying boats' on the ground or moored on Kāne‛ohe Bay were destroyed, and six others were damaged."
That attack, of course, led the U.S. into World War II.
