The U.S. Census Bureau has recently released a chart showing all the racial and ethnic designations it has used since the census began in 1790 through the last survey in 2010.

The racial profile in America has changed significantly throughout its history, and a recent graphic released by the U.S. Census Bureau shows just how much the terminology and attitudes have shifted.
According to the chart, when the census survey first began in 1790, there were three categories: slaves, free white females & males, and all other free persons.
