Is Bangladesh becoming a new laboratory for GM crops?

Depending on how you feel about genetically modified produce, Bangladesh can either be seen as a symbol of a bright future for farming or the start of a dangerous path into the unknown. The country is mid-way into a pilot project that promises cheap food for the masses, with the "BT Brinjal" GM aubergine as its flagship pest-resistant crop. But environmental charities are flagging up concerns about long-term health effects. They also say multinational firms are taking advantage of poor farmers.
