Florida cop shoots and kills pet dog on family's doorstep

FLORIDA CITY, FLORIDA — A mother and daughter are grief-stricken after a Florida city cop shot their beloved pet in cold blood, right on their property.
Gillian Palacios said she left her car's passenger door open while she went inside to get her dog ready for the vet, reports CBS Miami. Officer Marcus Terry, who was patrolling the area, noticed the car door open and decided to alert the homeowners. He knocked at the front door and was met by the family's bull-terrier mix, Dutchess, who ran out excitedly. The cop, likely scared by the dog, grabbed his gun and promptly blew her brains out.
A police spokesman said the dog "rushed" the officer, adding that police officers "do not have the luxury of hindsight", even though Palacios said Dutchess wasn't barking or being aggressive, according to the Miami Herald.
Dutchess died in a pool of blood on the driveway after being shot in the head three times. Palacios and her daughter are seeking justice and demanding that the officer be made responsible for his actions.
Officer Terry has been placed on paid administrative leave while the police department investigates the incident, which is standard procedure when an officer fires his weapon.
