China and Europe should look at holding free trade talks, according to the country’s premier Li Keqiang who is meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel.

Li also pointed out that China would be a huge market for Germany while his country can learn from German industry.

The two leaders signed a framework agreement for strategic cooperation between German carmaker Volkswagen and the Industrial and Commercial Bank of China.

ICBC is China’s largest lender, while VW is China’s top-selling car brand.

Li and Merkel also discussed the crisis in Syria. He said there must be a political solution. China has repeatedly opposed the use of force.

Li said China was seriously concerned about the refugee crisis in Germany and Europe but believes Europe has the ability to meet the challenge.
