Chile: Same-Sex Couples Celebrate Civil Unions for First Time

The first same-sex civil union was celebrated today in Chile. Civil unions have been adopted for both homosexual and heterosexual couples. Inheritance and child custody will be regulated although couples will not be allowed to adopt children. Chilean Roxana Ortiz and Spaniard Virginia Gomez were the first ones to seal the deal in Santiago. Another 500 couples are scheduled to register in the first three days. teleSUR
