Raising of Palestinian Flag at UN of Major Symbolic Importance

The address by Palestinian President Palestinian Mahmoud Abbas at the United Nations General Assembly Wednesday and the raising of the Palestinian flag at UN headquarters is of tremendous symbolic significance. Observers view it as a step forward to recognition of Palestinian statehood. Much remains to be done, however, for the main world powers to back Palestinian sovereignty.
