At the gates of the Afghan exodus to the West

After Syrians, the second largest migrant group heading to Europe is from Afghanistan. In the first six months of this year, some 78,000 Afghans had sought asylum in Europe. Despite the fall of the Taliban and NATO’s gradual troop withdrawal, Afghanistan remains highly unstable and many see few economic prospects on the horizon. Our correspondent Constantin Simon reports from the west of the country, along the Afghan-Iranian border.
