The Dalai Lama regards himself as a feminist, but recently made a comment that left many stunned. 
In discussing the possibility that a future successor be a woman, he said she would have to be attractive, “Otherwise not much use." 
The BBC journalist conducting the interview was quite clearly taken aback by the comment as he asked the religious leader if he was joking. 
To that, the Dalai Lama replied, “No, it’s true.”
