Four From East Jerusalem Sentenced in Arson, Firebomb Attacks - Diplomacy and Defense

Four residents of the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Isawiyah were sentenced on Monday after having been convicted of arson and firebomb attacks on adjacent Jewish neighborhoods.
They included an attempt to burn down a synagogue in the French Hill neighborhood in northern Jerusalem, attacks in the parking lot of Hebrew University's Mount Scopus campus, and in attempts to strike at police and military targets in the area.
In handing down the sentences, District Court Judge Aryeh Romanoff relied upon the precedents set in earlier firebombing cases, specifically one involving a Silwan resident by the name of Qawasmeh.
In his court opinion, the judge also noted the thousands of shekels of property damage caused to the synagogue, as well as a police and civilian vehicle that incurred substantial damage.
