Thousands of refugees arrive in Austria as Hungary, Croatia let them pass

Thousands of refugees and migrants fleeing conflict in the Middle East are making their way into Austria this weekend, with thousands more expected Sunday as Hungary, Croatia and Slovenia let them pass through, but gave them a shove.
The new influx, after days in which eastern European nations struggled to cope with increasing numbers of refugees trying to find a path westward, is further increasing tensions between neighbors.
“A country can build a fence and try to pass on the responsibility to provide humanitarian aid to its neighbors,” Austrian Chancellor Werner Faymann said Saturday in a jab at Hungary, which has been putting up fences along its borders to try to stop migrants from entering the country.
“International solidarity” is needed to solve the crisis, Faymann said, according to the AFP news agency, as he and German Vice Chancellor Sigmar Gabriel called for United Nations countries to allocate another $5.6 billion in aid for refugees living in camps in Lebanon and Jordan.
