Migrants: queues build at border as Germany suspends Schengen
  • 9 years ago
Germany has temporarily re-introduced border checks as it tries to deal with a record influx of refugees and migrants.

The decision goes against the principle of free movement of people established by the Schengen zone.

Train services across the border have slowly resumed.

German Interior Minister Thomas de Maizière admits this is not the answer to the problem. “It will help reduce numbers,” he said, “and re-establish order at the border. It shows that Germany needs and deserves European solidarity.”
