Who'll protect poor people like us?..PPR Wahyu Residents
  • 9 years ago
Residents of Projek Perumahan Rakyat (PPR) Wahyu in Selayang are unable to meet the monthly rentals due to the city council because of poverty. As such many owe substantial amounts of back-rental to the council.
Many of the residents once lived in rent and utilities-free squatter communities in the Lembah Pantai and Ampang Jaya areas. But when they were forced to move to low-cost flats built by Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL) and had to start paying rental and utilities, many found themselves in dire financial straits. Due to low wages and unemployment, they have not been able to pay the rental. Some have family members who are living with illnesses and disabilities.
DBKL has given dateline, expiring at the end of December 2010 to settle all pending payments or face severe action.
