Britain's Duchess of Cambridge, the wife of Prince William, has given birth to a daughter, the couple's residence Kensington Palace announced on Saturday.
Kensington Palace made the announcement after the birth: "Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a daughter at 8.34am. The baby weighs 8lbs 3oz… Her Royal Highness and her child are both doing well."
The Duchess was driven to the hospital alongside her husband early on Saturday. Kate, who was believed to be nearly a week overdue, is being looked after by consultant obstetrician Guy Thorpe-Beeston.
The new baby is fourth in line to the throne, behind his or her grandfather Prince Charles, father Prince William and brother Prince George.
