Another DSP gunned down in Karachi

KARACHI: A senior police officer was killed Tuesday when unknown gunmen opened fire on a police vehicle in Landhi area of Karachi, officials said.

According to police, Deputy Supertintendent (DSP) Majeed Abbas was alone in the mobile van in Shah Latif Town area of Landhi when four gunmen riding motorcycles opened fire on the vehicle, killing him on the spot.

Officials said that 9mm bullet shells found from the spot while Kalashnikov rifles were also used in the attack.

Karachi has witnessed a recent surge in targeted-killing of police officers. Majeed Abbas is the third DSP to be gunned down in the East Range since the start of the year.

Taking notice of the killing of DSP Majeed Abbas, Inspector-General (IG) Sindh Ghulam Haider Jamali ordered DIG East and SSP Malir and East to submit a report into the incident and to arrest the killers immediately.
