Guatemala: Thousands Rally to Demand President's Resignation

An estimated 50,000 protesters gathered in Guatemala City on Wednesday to demand the resignation of President Otto Perez Molina, currently embroiled in a corruption scandal involving customs agencies. Tomorrow the country's main peasant organizations will join hold demonstrations. Additional demands are for the jailing of those involved in siphoning off public funds in the customs corruption scandal and the resignation of Vice President Alejandro Maldonado, who was recently appointed to replace Roxana Baldetti following her forced resignation. Maldonado is accused of involvement in 2013 in the cancellation of charges against General Efrain Rios Montt for crimes against humanity. Gerardo Torres reports from Central America. teleSUR
