Israelis Fire on Palestinians ‘Just for Fun,’ Says Gaza Fisherman

On Monday morning the Israeli Navy shelled Palestinian fishing boats off the coast of Gaza City, trying to sink the boats and arrest the fisherman, who managed to flee the area. Although the Israelis usually justify their attacks by saying that the Palestinians have crossed the six-mile nautical limit agreed upon in the truce, the Palestinian fishermen insist they would not dare go further than five miles so as not to be killed. “The Israeli Navy knows this, and they violate the truce just for fun, to show the world they can violate any truce without any punishment,” said one fisherman. Meanwhile in the West Bank, extremists protected by the police clashed with Palestinians in the occupied city of East Jerusalem after crowds of Israeli hardliners marched across the city to celebrate the 48th anniversary of its capture. Israeli police said that two Israeli officers were wounded by Palestinian stone throwers and that at least five Palestinians were arrested during the clashes.
