Israelis and Palestinians wake up to the news that there may soon be a ceasefire to the week old conflict between the two sides.

Israel has already approved the Egyptian-proposed deal put forward last night.

Under the deal a de-escalation was to begin at 9am, leading to a total ceasefire 12 hours later.

Residents of Tel Aviv had mixed reactions to the news.

"I'm glad there's talking between the sides. And I tend to think that it's going to be the good decision for everyone right now. Obviously we'll be all relieved when this stops."

(SOUNDBITE) (English) TEL AVIV RESIDENT ETAN ALTSHORER SAYING:

"Personally I think it's a bad idea. I think when you leave, you don't give someone another chance to kill you. That's what it comes down to - they're just going to do it again -- in two years, another year."

In Gaza, locals said they wanted long-term safety.
