At least 13 people died in a collision between a train and a minibus in Ukraine on Tuesday (February 4).

The crash happened at about 3:35 p.m. in the northeastern Sumy region, near the border with Russia at a crossroad near the villages of Bilany and Vyry, CNN reported.

Officials blamed the collision on the bus driver, saying he ignored warning lights.

People in the minibus were returning home from a school. Teachers and at least one pupil are said to be among the casualties, Euronews reported.

According to Euronews, the train dragged the bus along the tracks, causing the deaths of at least 13 people and injuring six more. The injured were transported to a local hospital.

The Ukraine State Emergency Service is now investigating the accident.
