Oscar Pistorius releases statement on the first anniversary of killing of girlfriend

Oscar Pistorius was accused of murdering his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp last year finally broke his silence by releasing a grief statement on his website calling her death a "devastating accident".

"No words can adequately capture my feelings about the devastating accident that has caused such heartache for everyone who truly loved -- and continues to love Reeva," written on the website.

"The pain and sadness, especially for Reeva's parents, family and friends consumes me with sorrow. The loss of Reeva and the complete trauma of that day, I will carry with me for the rest of my life -- Oscar."

Pistorius has kept a low profile ever since he was released on bail last year and will stand trial for murder on March 3, which had attracted world-wide attention.
