Confused Japanese tourists trigger high-speed police chase in Utah

After a high-speed chase near the Arizona border, police in southern Utah were shocked to discover the identity of occupants of the speeding vehicle — Japanese tourists!

The chase began early Saturday on Interstate 15 when the family's rented car was spotted by highway patrolmen driving extremely slowly and swerving between lanes.

Thinking they were witnessing a DUI in progress, police tried to pull them over, but the car instead sped up. Taking police on a seven mile-long chase until their tires were punctured by a spike strip laid by police.

The confused family, who claimed they were unacquainted with American traffic laws, won't face any charges.
