Residents in Albuquerque, New Mexico protested at the City Council meeting Thursday night after the Albuquerque Police Department shot and killed Amand Martin, the 25th person they've killed since 2010.

Police say they do not have lapel footage of the actual shooting on Sunday but they did obtain a video recorded by Martin's son showing his father walking around the house with a gun. Martin's wife called the police to notify them of his threatening behavior.

Martin, 50 and an Air Force veteran with a history of mental illness, remained inside the home during the five-hour standoff with police in SWAT gear.

Shots were fired from inside the house around 5:30 pm. Officers then launched flash bangs through the windows, an action some would later criticize, in an attempt to force Martin from the home.

Martin fired shots from two handguns as he came out the front door. Officer Daniel Hughes, a 12-year veteran, shot Martin from more than 50 yards away.

The Justice Department concluded a 16 month investigation of the APD in April by saying, "the APD has a pattern or practice of excessive force that violates the Constitution and federal law."
