A woman was wounded by gunshot while attending a gun show in Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania on Saturday.
Geoffrey Hawk, owner of In Case of Emergency Enterprises, accidentally fired a bullet into Krista Gearhart's leg during The Eagle Arms Gun Show, despite it having a strict policy of "no loaded weapons."
Hawk was demonstrating a concealed-carry wallet holster to Gearhart when the gun went off. The bullet struck Gearhart in the thigh. "Everybody paused for a second ... making sure there wasn't more, and then rushed to her aid," said a witness, Eric Bower.
Officials asked Hawk to leave the event and closed down the aisle in order to investigate. Vendors usually use a plastic replica of the gun, but Hawk was using a real semi-automatic .380, according to Sergeant Leonard Rogutski of the Bloomsburg Police.
Hawk told police that he'd done the same demonstration about 20 times prior to the shooting and believed the gun not to be loaded. He said he thinks someone may have loaded the weapon while he was completing background checks on other customers.
Gearhart was treated for the leg wound and released from hospital. The Columbia County DA will decide whether to hit Hawk with criminal charges.
