North Korea prison camp: American Matthew Miller gets 6 years hard labor for destroying visa

Matthew Todd Miller, 24, of Bakersfield, California, has been sentenced to six years of hard labor in a North Korean prison camp.
Miller reportedly ripped up his visa and pleaded for asylum when he arrived in the country in April.
Since then, he has admitted to deliberately destroying his visa so that he could experience life as a prisoner.
Neighbors of his family in California have said he was living in South Korea prior to April, and that he moved there four years ago to visit his brother.
Miller now joins two other detained Americans in the Stalinist country.
Kenneth Bae, 45, is serving a 15-year sentence for “planning to overthrow the Korean government.” Jeffrey Fowle, 56, was arrested for leaving a bible at a sailor’s club.
All three prisoners have called for U.S. government intervention. Jen Psaki, a U.S. National Security Council spokesperson, said: “We continue to work actively to secure these three U.S. citizens' release."
Miller planned his trip with Uri Tours, an America-based travel agency that specializes in trips to North Korea.
