Florida murder-suicide: Grandfather Don Spirit shoots dead daughter and six grandchildren

Florida authorities are investigating the motive behind a tragic murder-suicide in which a 51-year-old man fatally shot his daughter and six of his grandchildren before taking his own life.
The murder-suicide took place at a residence near Northwest 39th Terrace in Bell, Florida, a town with a population of 350.
Don Spirit opened fire, killing his 28-year-old daughter and six of his grandchildren aged between 11 and three months.
At around 4:00 p.m, Spirit called the police and told them he might harm himself and others. Officers arrived at the scene and initiated a discussion with him. During the negotiations, Spirit turned the gun on himself.
Quoting Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz III, the Orlando Sentinel reported that the deputies then found the dead bodies inside the house. The victims’ names and ages were released: Kaleb Kuhlmann, 11; Kylie Kuhlmann, 9; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Brandon Stewart, 4; Destiny Stewart, 5; 2-month-old Alanna Stewart; and Sarah Spirit, 28.
Authorities declined to confirm if Sarah Spirit was the mother of the six children. Spirit was convicted in 2001 over the killing of his eight-year-old son in a shooting accident. He was released from prison five years later.
