Man punches bear: Black bear nearly attacks dogs, stopped by elderly former marine - TomoNews

A Northern California man couldn't bear the idea of his little dogs being eaten by a massive bear, so he stepped in when the beast entered his property and defended his pups with only his bare knuckles.
Carl Moore, 73, says he was protecting his two dogs when he went after an intimidating intruder armed only with his fists sometime last week.
The ex-Marine told Sacramento's KHTK-TV that he punched a 300-pound bear in the face when it began to climb over a gate leading to his Meadow Vista home.
Moore says his chihuahua Lacey screamed in fear when the bear straddled the gate as it attempted to get in his backyard.
His 15-year-old lab Bailey could barely bark in time to sound an alarm, Moore said.
The former Marine, bar bouncer and boxer sprung into action cursing at the animal before he sucker-punched it right in the kisser.
"Boom, I hit him good," Moore said, describing his brawl. "I ain't lettin' no bear eat my puppies, that ain't going to happen."
Wildlife officials say the bear, which scampered off after the unexpected blow, was probably more interested in Moore's chickens.
