More Nepal earthquake videos capture Everest panic and Bhaktapur destruction

Climbers at the base camp of Mount Everest run for cover as a huge avalanche triggered by the Nepal earthquake approaches.

Cries of “inside, inside!” and “close the door” are heard, followed by rapid breathing as the climbers huddle inside a tent.

The panic is captured on amateur video, one of several to emerge showing the moment Nepal’s calamitous earthquake struck last Saturday.

The avalanche wiped out a large part of the base camp, killing 18 climbers and mountain sherpa guides and injuring more than 60 people.

But it narrowly missed these climbers’ tent. Paul Devaney and Teodor Johansen, who filmed the video, say everyone in it is safe and well.

“I’ve never seen anything like that before,” one said with relief.

At Tripureshwor Chowkin in southern Kathmandu, CCTV footage captured the scene as a monument in the middle of a roundabout collapsed and tumbled into the road.
