A 22-year-old guy set himself on fire accidentally at an empty Brooklyn storefront Tuesday as he attempted to dry tobacco leaves for a hookah bar he was planning to open.

Neighbors said the man may have been using acetone and coconut oil while drying tobacco leaves and preparing his hookah.

The chemical fumes could have ignited due to the pilot light in the basement’s water heater, the neighbors are speculating.

Just before 1:40 p.m., a small explosion occurred in the basement of the empty store. That’s when video captured the man running across the street from the McDonald Ave. address under the F line near 18th Ave. in Borough Park with his shirts and pants still on fire.

Still on fire, the man crosses the road and almost runs into a woman on the sidewalk, but then continues on down the street. A man yelled at him to “stop, drop and roll” while some of his neighbors came up with fire extinguishers to put the flames out.

The man was taken to Maimonides Medical Center, where he was listed in critical condition Tuesday afternoon. He was then transferred to Cornell Hospital burn unit for more treatment.

Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
