Japan’s trade minister busted for S&M bar spending and using government money

Japan’s recently appointed trade and industry minister Yoichi Miyazawa has been accused of spending government funds at an S&M bar.

This comes on the heels of Miyazawa’s predecessor’s departure over the misuse of government funds. Yuko Obuchi resigned less than a month ago because it’d been discovered she’d been spending government money on make-up and clothes.

So it’s hard to comprehend why Miyazawa would ever even RISK being caught misappropriating government money so soon after his appointment. And to top it all off, the misspent funds had gone to an S&M bar!

Initially, Miyazawa adamantly refused to accept responsibility, saying that it was probably due a filing error and that it couldn’t possibly be him because he had no interest in S&M clubs.

It was determined, however, that the US$170 dollars really was spent at an S&M bar and included as part of the costs for ‘entertainment’. Miyazawa still claims that he did not go to the bar and has never been to the bar, period.

Whether or not this will reflect poorly on Prime Minister Abe remains to be seen, but either way it represents a drain on his cabinet’s resources.

Maybe someone’s about to get a spanking?
