Taliban school attack: Pakistani Taliban kills at least 135 people, mostly children, in Peshawar

At least 135 people, most of them children, were killed when Pakistani Taliban launched an attack on a military-run school in the northwestern city of Peshawar on Tuesday, in the deadliest ever Taliban attack in Pakistan.
About 500 students and teachers were inside the Army Public School in Peshawar around 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday when at least six armed men wearing military uniforms entered the school and started firing randomly inside the school auditorium, Reuters and the BBC reported.
The BBC reports that at least 135 people were killed. According to the Telegraph’s Pakistan correspondent, 132 people are dead and 122 injured, most of them children.
Pakistani security forces surrounded the school and engaged in a standoff with the attackers, who held students as hostages inside. Six attackers are said to have been killed, but security forces are still combing the school for explosives, the BBC reported. It is believed that five of the attackers were killed by security forces while a sixth blew himself up.
The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack, which it said was in retaliation for a military offensive in the region.
“We selected the army’s school for the attack because the government is targeting our families and females,” said Taliban spokesman Muhammad Umar Khorasani, according to Reuters. "We want them to feel the pain."
