A stampede at an Indonesian stadium in Papua province has left at least 18 spectators, mostly women and children, dead. A riot broke out in the stadium when judges announced a local boxer the loser of the match. Supporters of the losing boxer lobbed their chairs at judges. Supporters of the winner retaliated by throwing bottles and broken chairs at the competitor fans. The violence caused a panic and spectators rushed the exits. Only two of the five exits were opened at the time and those killed were crushed to death on site.
