Google Mobile? Sundar Pichai all but confirms, and here's how it might work

Industry pundits are buzzing after Google Senior Vice President Sundar Pichai all but confirmed reports that the company will experiment with offering wireless services, and it plans on bringing innovation to that sector.

In normal cellular operations, a device is usually limited to working on one company's network at a time. However Mobile Virtual Network Operators, or MVNOs, buy network services from one or more carriers and resell them to customers, meaning their devices could connect to many amalgamated networks at once.

Google is expected to use this scheme, along with utilizing Wi-fi hotspots in order to guarantee the best connection in any location. It's latest Android smartphone OS version has this ability baked in.

Insiders say Google can manage this due to its growing presence as a broadband provider as well as leveraging its tie up with Starbucks, where it operates the wi-fi networks in over 7000 of its stores. It is anticipated that the company will lease wireless capacity from both Sprint and T-Mobile to form a seamless nationwide network.

But others in the know are cautioning that the service will probably be only able to work with it's Nexus 6 branded smartphone once the trial gets underway.

Google is known for conducting these sorts of experiments as well as investing billions in cash in order shake up different technology sectors such as automated self driving cars, and even high altitude balloons that beam down internet access.
