A gunman rammed his vehicle into the U.S. Census Bureau headquarters in Maryland on Thursday evening before shooting and killing a security guard.

The incident reportedly began when the gunman rammed his vehicle into the gates outside the U.S. Census Bureau in Suitland, according to NBC Washington.

A guard then began to chase the gunman but was shot in the chest. The gunman was barricaded inside the bureau at one point, Reuters reported.

The gunman was then shot multiple times after a police chase at 11th and H Streets, NBC Washington reported. A D.C. police officer was injured in the leg during the shootout.

The gunman also reportedly abducted his wife who has since been found safe and was also involved in a shooting on Bruce Place in southeast D.C., according to NBC Washington.
