Mexico rejects postponing elections in Guerrero

Yesterday the General Council of the National Electoral Institute, the body in charge of organizing elections in Mexico, responded negatively to the request by family members of the 43 missing Ayotzinapa students that the June 7 elections in the State of Guerrero be suspended. The family members, backed by social organizations, argued that given rampant levels of violence, insecurity, and corruption in the state, conditions for holding fair and safe elections do not exist. Authorities, while acknowledging the "challenges", said the elections must proceed as planned. Clayton Conn reports from Mexico City. teleSUR
