New Mexico Man Sues State Lottery Over 'Misprinted' Winning Ticket

A man in New Mexico, who thought he had won at least $500,000 when he matched two numbers on his “Ruby 7s” scratch-off card, is now suing the state lottery for his winnings after his ticket was invalidated due to a “misprinting” error.
The New Mexico State Lottery called one man’s winning ticket a “misprint” error and is being sued as a result.
John Wines, a 65-year old retiree, thought he had won at least $500,000 when he matched the winning number “1” to two areas on his “Ruby 7s” scratch-off card, with each valued at $250,000.
However, lottery officials invalidated the matched numbers, claiming that at least one of them has a small mark beside it.
Because this shows the ticket to contain a printing mistake, they have refused to pay Wines the prize money.
In response, he is suing the New Mexico State Lottery for $500,625, the amount he believes he is owed.
