Peru: Indigenous tribes halt oil company operations in the Amazon

In Peru, conflicts have escalated between indigenous tribes from the Amazon and transnational oil companies over the environment effects of the latter's activities. Since January 26, the indigenous tribes have halted the operations of the oil company Plupetro. On Tuesday, a protest was held in the Peruvian capital in support of the indigenous peoples' struggle.
