Online campaign to raise awareness for cervical cancer

ONLINE CAMPAIGN TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR CERVICAL CANCER
A new social media campaign is encouraging women to smudge lipstick across their face and post a selfie. The smear for smear initiative was started by UK based “Jo`s Cervical Cancer Trust” and aims to raise awareness about the disease among young women and the importance of attending their regular smear tests, raising concerns that the uptake of screening is at an all-time low. The campaign is proving extremely popular online and generating a lot of praise.
Hundreds of web users have already shown support for the campaign, sharing their selfies on Twitter and Instagram under the #SmearForSmear hashtag. And it`s not just women, men have also been getting on board, in a show of solidarity for victims of cervical cancer. A number of fashion bloggers have also joined the movement, promoting it via their YouTube channel, as we can see here.
And a lot of famous faces have also been keen to get involved. Burberry ambassador Cara Delevigne and other models including Georgia May Jagger and Suki Waterhouse, British singer Rita Ora, to name but a few, have all shared #SmearForSmear pics online.
This new social media craze does bring to mind last year`s phenomenally successful “Ice Bucket Challenge” raising awareness and funds for ALS, and which saw thousands of people across the globe pour a bucket of icy water over their heads and post the video online.
