NASA satellite to measure Earth's soil water content and study climate change

NASA has successfully launched its SMAP satellite after a two-day delay. For the next three years it will measure planet Earth’s soil moisture content, giving scientists data they hope will help in studying the effects of drought, help weather forecasters, and analyse climate change.
