Dog meat is considered a delicacy in South Korea and the consumption of it is a tradition that stretches back centuries. However in recent times, its popularity has declined and one farmer has agreed to send puppies and adult dogs to the U.S. so they can live the rest of their lives as human companions.

Dog meat is considered a delicacy in some parts of Asia and its consumption is a tradition that stretches back centuries.

A dog meat farmer in South Korea, however, agreed to send his canines to the U.S. so they can live the rest of their lives as human companions.

According to the Humane Society International spokesperson, Kelly O’Meara, the organization spoke with the farmer and the conversation led to an arrangement.

The man said that in the future, he’ll shift his focus away from dogs and will instead concentrate his efforts on growing fruit.

Humane Society International reportedly paid him to crop farm in place of raising canines. 23 dogs were rescued from the farm and some of them have already arrived in Alexandria, Virginia.

All the animals will be transferred to a number of different shelters before being placed up for adoption.

O’Meara remarked ”This is the first farm that we were able to negotiate with and make an agreement to shut the doors for good.”
