ROUGH CUT (NO REPORTER NARRATION)

Clashes broke out on Friday (December 12) between police and local fisherman in Temuco, Chile, who for the last few weeks have been protesting cuts in government fishing quotas set for 2015.

A group of some 50 fishermen were involved in the conflict, which blocked the Ruta 5 Sur main road heading towards Temuco airport, saying the cut backs will bring grave financial effects upon fishing communities.

The protesters set fire to tires in the road and overturned a police car.

The police tried to disperse protesters by spraying tear gas and firing rubber bullets, and several unidentified protesters were injured in the clashes.
