A couple from Alabama, Michael and Robin Hamby, are officially parents to a rare set of twins. The newborn boys are conjoined twins.

They share a circulatory system and a heart, meaning the option to separate them is simply not possible. They are attached at the arms, legs and torso.

The pair greeted the world on Thursday morning after Robin underwent a C-section. Michael and Robin knew in advance that their babies would be conjoined.

The couple was told for years that they would have difficulty conceiving a child. Not ones to give up, they went on to have a daughter and earlier this year, learned Robin was pregnant again.

After an ultrasound, a technician confirmed they were having twins and that she believed the babies were conjoined. Michael Hamby opened a Facebook account prior to their arrival to keep family, friends and even news outlets posted about the events surrounding the pregnancy and birth.

After they greeted the world, Michael said the infants’ coloring and heart rate were good. Both children were crying and alert following the birth. The family has launched a YouCaring page to help pay for medical expenses and ask for prayers.
