Paraguay: Peasant farmers seek government aid after poor harvest

Small scale peasant farmers from different agricultural sectors in Paraguay have been protesting for several weeks demanding that the government aid them through a difficult harvest and a much reduced market. Although a dialogue with the government has been initiated, these talks have not advanced because authorities refuse to subsidize small scale farming or condone their loans to peasant farmers. Peasant leaders have charged that President Horacio Cartes's administration provides benefits to multinational corporations while refusing to attend to the needs of the small scale peasant farmers. teleSUR
