Food prices in Panama on the rise in spite of government price control

Although the government in Panama has implemented controlled pricing of 22 basic food items, and subsidies to growers to take up the slack, food prices in the country continue to spiral out of control as merchants find ways to get around the legislation. Some food-sellers have even stopped selling items which are price controlled, causing food shortages in some areas. TeleSUR
