Nigeria: Boko Haram thought responsible for bombing and prison attack
  • 9 years ago
A suicide bomber has killed at least 29 people while they were taking part in a religious Shi’ite Muslim procession in northeast Nigeria.

It happened in the market town of Potiskum.

In a separate incident in the centre of the country, gunmen using explosives, blew their way into a prison in the city of Lokoja, killing one person and freeing 144 inmates.

Two years ago Suni Muslim insurgents Boko Haram attacked the same prison.

The group’s five year campaign for an Islamic state has killed thousands.

Although a government announced ceasefire with Boko Haram has been dismissed by the group a mediator still says talks are underway for the release of 200 abducted Nigerian school girls.
