A female white whale became a mother for the first time on Wednesday, giving birth to a calf at an aquarium in central China after five hours in labor.
Members of the staff at Changsha Underwater World in Hunan Province said it was the first time that a white whale gave birth at an aquarium in China.
The mother, introduced from Russia in 2010, is eight years old now. She became pregnant 15 months ago. She started giving birth at around 8:00 in the morning and finished at 13:14.
