American nurse with Ebola Nina Pham in hospital video

The first nurse to be infected with Ebola in the United States has spoken in a hospital video, filmed by one of the doctors.

In it, Nina Pham thanks medical staff who are looking after her, telling them “I love you guys.”

Pham has now been flown from Dallas in Texas to Maryland where she is being treated by specialists in infectious diseases.

Another infected nurse, Amber Vinson, is being treated in an isolation unit in Atlanta.

Several schools in Dallas closed after learning that some of their pupils had been on a flight Vinson took at the weekend to Ohio.

The schools are being disinfected and the children of concern kept at home, but parents say they are extremely worried.

One father said: “My biggest fear is lack of information. I just wish everyone had all the information they could be giving, so they could make informed decision for their family.”

Meanwhile President Obama said he was considering appointing an Ebola “czar” to coordinate the fight against the virus in the US.

He says he remains opposed to a ban on flights from West Africa.

Nearly 4,000 US troops are being sent to West Africa and will help with building 17 treatment centres.
