This video lecture from Aldehydes and Ketones (F.Sc. second year Chemistry) covers the preparation of formaldehyde or methanal both in laboratory and on industrial scale (Formox process). In both cases methanol and methyl alcohol is oxidized in the presence of air over suitable catalysts and heating conditions (Pt-asbestos + 300 celsius for laboratory) and (Iron-Molybdenum oxides/ Silver + 500 celsius temperature in Formox process industrially).
