Prevent Palestinian civilian deaths, Netanyahu told

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu arrived at the White House on Wednesday, aiming to focus on Iran but instead facing a reminder about the recent Gaza war.

Washington is still reeling about the number of civilian deaths during the 55 day conflict, something President Barack Obama pressed his Israeli counterpart on.

Netanyahu was urged to find ways to prevent Palestinian civilian casualties in the future.

The Gaza war between Israel and Hamas killed more than 2,100 Palestinians – the majority of them civilians – and more than 70 Israelis.

Meanwhile Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas has warned that if the UN Security Council fails to pass a resolution setting a deadline for Israel to end its occupation of Palestinian territories, he will go to the International Criminal Court.

Those proposals have also caused a rift with Washington, which has been working towards a softer resolution that would reduce Israel’s economic stranglehold.
