A relative calm in Gaza as a 72-hour Egypt-brokered ceasefire goes into effect.

Hamas spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri says talks in Cairo will soon be underway.

"There is an agreement for 72-hour truce aiming to continue the negotiations. We agreed on this truce after the Israelis agreed in advance on it, and they confirmed that an Israeli delegation will arrive to Cairo. We in Hamas assure that these negotiations are the last chance so we call on the occupation to stop wasting time and not to miss this chance."

Hours before the ceasefire began, rockets can be seen fired at the Kerem Shalom crossing into Gaza.

The crossing serves as a transfer point for cargo into Gaza, including food and medical supplies.

Egypt's Foreign Ministry issued a statement urging both sides to take advantage of the truce in order to resume negotiations.
