Blackout: Gaza's only power plant destroyed by Israeli tank attack

Israeli tank fire has destroyed a fuel depot at Gaza’s only power plant cutting electricity to Gaza City and other parts of the Palestinian enclave.

The plant was hit last week and operating at reduced capacity.

Firefighters were ill equipped to bring the blaze under control.

Mohammed al-Sharif is director of the plant: “I would like to say to the world that this is a humanitarian plant, that served the people, therefore its existence helped people, life, hospitals and the normal, simple life of the people in Gaza.”

As Israel intensified attacks from land, sea and air a mosque in Gaza City has been destroyed, frustration and fear among Palestinians is palpable as one Gazan explained: “It’s been seven years of on and off talks, which have got us no where. Either Israel makes peace with the people of Palestine or they just keep quiet.”

The Israeli bombardment of Gaza’s limited infrastructure continues.
